GSD Automation
04 / What we build

Robot and cobot cells with the guarding, safety and controls designed as one system.

Pick-and-place, machine tending and assembly. We design the cell around the task, the people working beside it and the equipment it feeds, not around the robot brochure.

What we build

GSD Automation designs and builds robot and cobot cells for manufacturers across the island of Ireland. A cell is more than the robot: the fixturing, the end effector, the part presentation, the guarding, the safety circuit and the controls all decide whether it runs reliably.

  • SCARA and six-axis robot cells
  • Cobot stations for assembly, tending and packing
  • Robot cell frames, guarding and safety systems
  • End-of-arm tooling and part presentation
  • Integration with existing machines, conveyors and PLCs

Robot or cobot?

A cobot suits a lighter, slower task where people share the space and the cell needs to be moved or re-tasked. An industrial robot suits a faster cycle, a heavier part or a fixed task behind guarding. We help you choose on the facts of the job, and say so if a simple fixture or indexer would do the work for less.

Safety and controls as one system

Guarding, light curtains, interlocks and the safety PLC are designed with the mechanical cell, not bolted on afterwards. The cell is designed with CE requirements in mind, with the documentation included agreed as part of each project. Robot and PLC programming are done in-house, so one team is responsible for the whole cell.

What you receive

Mechanical design, electrical design in SolidWorks Electrical, robot and PLC programming, build, testing, installation and commissioning are done in-house. A factory acceptance test with your parts can be arranged before the cell ships, and site acceptance is agreed in the same way.

Questions we are asked

Which robot brands do you work with?+

We select the robot for the task and your preference, and can work with the main industrial and cobot platforms. If your plant already standardises on one brand, we work with that.

Can a robot cell be integrated with our existing line?+

Yes. Integration with existing machines, conveyors and PLCs is a regular part of our work. We survey the equipment first and agree the interface and any downtime with you.

How do you handle safety on a cobot cell?+

A cobot cell still needs a risk assessment. Speed, force, tooling and the parts handled all affect whether the cell can run collaboratively, and we design the safety measures from that assessment.
