03 / What we build

Inspection stations that find the fault at the station, not at your customer.

We build inspection into the process, at the end of the line or between steps, so a bad part is caught where it is made and never travels further.

What we build

GSD Automation designs and builds inspection stations for manufacturers across the island of Ireland. Each station is built around the defect you need to catch, the rate you run at and what should happen to a part that fails.

  • Vision inspection stations, with lighting and optics selected for the defect
  • Dimensional gauging with contact or non-contact sensors
  • Presence, orientation and completeness checks
  • Leak and force verification built into the process
  • Reject handling, part marking and result logging

Inspection built into the process

The best inspection is the one that stops the next operation when something is wrong. A station between steps checks the part before more value is added to it. An end-of-line station gives you a final record for every part shipped. We design the fixturing and sensors so the result is repeatable shift after shift, not dependent on who is operating.

Vision and gauging

Vision systems are specified for the real defect, with the lighting, lens and camera chosen on sample parts in our workshop before the design is fixed. Dimensional gauging uses the right sensor for the tolerance, from simple presence sensors to probes and laser measurement. Results can be logged per part for traceability.

What you receive

Mechanical, electrical and controls design, build, programming and testing are done in-house. The proposal states what is inspected, the pass and fail criteria, how rejects are handled and what is recorded. A factory acceptance test on your parts can be arranged before delivery.

Questions we are asked

What do you need to design an inspection station?+

Sample good and bad parts, the defect or dimension to check, the tolerance, the line rate and what should happen to a failed part. Photos of the current method help.

Can inspection be added to an existing machine or line?+

Yes. Inspection stations are often retrofitted between existing operations or at the end of an existing line. We survey the equipment first and agree the integration with you.

Does vision inspection work on our parts?+

It depends on the defect, the surface and the lighting. We test on your sample parts before committing to a vision approach, and say plainly if a different method would be more reliable.
